I'm not a sprout guru by any means but I needed to comment anyway because I think this is a fabulous product. I like the fact that water is running over the sprouts which minimizes the chance of mold. You need to change the water daily to insure freshness & to deter from mold. I also add two capfuls of the 8% food grade peroxide to help with this issue. I am a big "gadget" fan. When I buy gadgets, they better be easy to use, easy to clean ...more
[3] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-05-11 Summary: Excellent Way To Sprout! ... I've tried on and off for years to grow my own sprouts and have always given up. Using jars, bags, plastic trays, etc has always required too much work and too much mess. This machine is awesome! It's so easy and takes so little effort and the sprouts that come out of it are fresh, crisp and incredibly tasty. The only downside is that it does take a little bit of effort to clean the trays between growing sessions. But the dishwasher works great and I use Hydrogen Peroxide to sterilize the barrel. They have an unbelieveable 19g of protein, only 210 calories, tons of fiber, and they are filling. I have never had any other "nutrition" bar and felt full afterwards until this one. I think they taste just fine, but of course, they don't taste like a Hershey bar either, so don't have unrealistic expectations of taste and you'll be happy. The are so moist, yet not mushy. They satisfy my hunger for something crunchy and something sweet. They have no sugar in them, so they fit the bill perfectly for breakfast or for any meal-on-the-go. I can no longer find them in my grocery store nor in my health food store.
